Scenery and V-Ventures, the investment arm of Vereniging Veronica, proudly announce the launch of a groundbreaking documentary development initiative. Over the span of 5 years, SV DOCS will award €1M in development funding to high-quality documentaries aimed at reaching a global audience, featuring stories rooted in thorough (investigative) journalistic research.
The initiative aims to empower teams of journalists and filmmakers to share their impactful stories with a global audience. We are committed to bridging the worlds of journalism and filmmaking, recognizing that journalistic narratives deserve the grandest stages for their stories to be told. Furthermore, the initiative looks to strengthen the financial position of journalists and journalistic filmmakers.
Leveraging the extensive networks of production company Scenery and journalistic investment fund V-Ventures, this initiative not only provides essential funding but also offers guidance and support throughout the documentary production journey. SV DOCS will invest development funding biannually to filmmakers and journalists from every corner of the world, celebrating the most promising documentary pitches.
By providing substantial financial support in the early development phase and connecting (investigative) journalists with high-end filmmakers, we aim to ensure that extensively researched stories are brought to life with the impactful medium of film, creating a global platform for these narratives.
Scenery is an Amsterdam based production company which develops and produces high-end documentary feature films and series. We aim to reach a global and wide audience with our productions, making intangible stories relatable for a broader public. With a focus on original and character-driven stories, we strive to bring these ideas to our audience with great attention to cinematography and storytelling.
Our vision hinges on fostering a more financially astute approach to documentary storytelling. We have previously joined forces with many international partners such as the renowned A24 Films and Workerbee. Recent projects have been produced for global platforms including Netflix, Universal, Amazon and IMAX, as well as for the national television broadcasters VPRO, KRO/ NCRV and Videoland. With our stories we offer another perspective – or scenery - into worlds unfamiliar to our own. Insightful and inspiring ideas, brought to you in an exciting and compelling way.
